Youth arrested for kissing sculptures in the thousand year old Brihadeeshwarar Temple. Named as Mujibur Rahman, he is 28 years old according to the reports of police. While posting those pictures in his Facebook account, Mujibur added inappropriate captions which instigated wrath among the social media users.

In the pictures he posted in Facebook , he is seen kissing, hugging and posing inappropriately with the idols and female sculptures at the Thanjavur temple. The objectionable act offended the sentiments of a separate religion which resulted in Mujibur getting arrested by the police.

“Rahman hails from Othakkadai area of Madurai. Currently, he is residing and working as a food delivery boy in Trichy. As he wanted to celebrate; he went to the nearby ancient town of Thanjavur Wednesday. There, he visited King Raja Raja Chola built Brahideeswara Temple -better known as ‘the big temple’. In the temple, he took the controversial pictures with the women sculptures,” said Trichy police.

In one of the pictures, Rahman added a caption suggesting the sculptures to wear “shawl” which might be a dig at Tamilnadu government’s recent law of ordering women working in government office to wear “shawl” compulsory while wearing “Chudithaar”.

Rahman’s Facebook post enraged devotees and historians alike, complaints also poured in from other sections of the society following which Trichy Cantonment police booked Rahman and a special team headed by Trichy City Corporation Police Commissioner Amalraj was formed to nab the accused.

Going by the reports of Hindustan Times, Rahman was booked under IPC section 295 for injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class and 295 A- deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage reli­gious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or reli­gious beliefs.

“Finally, we got him on Saturday afternoon and he was sent to Trichy Central Prison under judicial custody,” said a police officer with Cantonment police station Trichy. Actress Kasthuri who is very much active in twitter and voicing for social issues, thrashed Mujibur for his activity.

In her twitter post she added a caption saying “பிடிச்சு ஜெயில்லே போட்டுட்டாங்க. ரம்ஜான் கொண்டாடினானாம் ! வாக்குமூலம் குடுத்துருக்கான். ச்சை ! பொம்பளமாதிரி இருந்தா கல்லை கூட விட்டு வைக்கமாடீங்களாடா? முஜிபுர் ரஹ்மான் ! எவ்வளவு பெரிய தலைவர் பேரை வச்சிக்கிட்டு எவ்வளவு சின்ன புத்தி செயல்!”
