The core idea of the Me Too campaign is to allow the survivor to speak up, and to listen. This requires a safe space to vent, where support will be unconditional. Sadly, such is not the case in the Tamil Twitterverse.

Samantha Akkineni, Varalaxmi Saratkumar and Siddharth. That’s about all of the celebrity voices from the Tamil film industry to come out in support of Chinmayi’s tweets against Vairamuthu.

Both Samantha and Siddharth are seen as outsiders in the Tamil film industry, since they both work extensively in Telugu cinema as well.

Of all their tweets, Siddharth alone named Vairamuthu in his tweet and asked for an investigation and action to be taken.

One of the most trending news online has been the #MeToo movement headed in Tamil Nadu by singer Chinmayi Sripaada. Allegations and reports have been spinning viral all over the internet for the past few days. It has been stated by various celebrities that this movement is an initiative for Women to speak up about their past personal experiences in order to ensure safety for Women in all aspects of life.

After the issue she has been terminated from the dubbing union alleging that she has not paid subscription fees.

Chinmayi Sripada released a video statement on Friday, clarifying how membership fees and other payments work inside the South Indian Cine and Television Artistes and Dubbing Artistes Union.

The popular singer, who has been at the forefront of the #MeToo movement in South India after calling out National Award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu for sexual harassment, announced last week that her membership from the dubbing union has been terminated without any intimation.

Although the union provided a clerical reason saying her membership has been revoked because Chinmayi didn’t pay her dues since 2016, it is widely believed that this sudden move is a result of the singer raising her voice in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

Chinmayi spoke out against veteran actor Radha Ravi as well, who happens to be the head of the Dubbing Artistes Union.

Her post read “***Update on this screenshot. Suddenly the two comments by Anandh Chandra and Prema Kaliyappan are missing and the 50 shares are down to 5. Interestingly, Prema, being a woman, doesn’t condemn the language at all and has her own words to say. If this is not blind casteist hatred when they don’t even know what caste I am ut just speculate, what does one say about parts of this society that claim to be forward thinking and wants to abolish caste?***

When I spoke about Mr. Vairamuthu – it was a Brahmin conspiracy and revenge against him and an “Aandal Issue”. And I was not even the only woman to speak up!!!!

Now when the Dubbing union terminated me it is a “Delta Diversion”.

And then the one tag I have gotten sooo used to on Tamil Social Media – several of them love profiling Brahmin women as “Brahmin Prostitutes” or Paappaara Thev– Munda”.

So just because I am identified as a certain caste, I don’t have the right to speak up about a bloody predator? Really now? Is this society sooo backward that you would go to any extent to safeguard a predator? What if he comes knocking at your door? At which point I guess this society will lock up the girls in one room instead of punishing the predator, again.

Interestingly the Brahmin Union President Narayanan also ended up calling me an “Iyengar The. Mu.” And this piece of crap still remains the TAMBRAS President because he amended the By Laws and no one in that Tamilnadu Brahmana Nala Sangam has the spine to kick him out.

I mean what’s with these men who perhaps are all wimps that they feel the need to call women who question their bullshittery as prostitutes?

I had the victim who got abused by TAMBRAS President Narayanan speak to a woman who said she is appointed to investigate the issue, via con-call, the girl spoke for over 45 minutes, and more than a month later the Tambras president still holds office. Shame on the TAMBRAS association to not have it in them to kick him out. They kept asking me to speak to one man after another, or to get the girl to speak to any of the men detailing the incident all over again. I mean what sort of an ICC is this!? I was also asked to call another gentleman, tell him that I am like his sister, and beg him to take action on Narayanan. I am like WTH?!

A Polimer TV Journalist said a few weeks ago that he “would never trust a woman like me and it is because of ME that other women’s stories wont be believed”. Awww sooo switttt.

I wrongly expected sections of the Tamil media to do the right thing. Today as News7 Tamil gives rerun after rerun of *Dato* (LOL) Radha Ravi’s interviews and doesn’t cover the FIRs lodged against him, the financial mismanagement, nor question him and no other journalist who asks “tough questions” can women expect the media here to report such incidents at all?

Nope. Every woman of every caste is oppressed in some way from sharing their story of harassment.

After all these weeks NOT ONE media house has had the spine to interview Mr. Vairamuthu or ask Mr Radha Ravi the questions they ask of women. Not even criticism. Not even coverage of all the women who spoke up. It was NOT JUST ME ALONE.

And that is where the spine with the men and some women goes missing.

The others anyway make and share memes like this. This is, well, *sections* of Tamilnadu that is sooo loud on social media, mainstream media and otherwise that the bias is stunning.

My caste identity – something I dont care about and I know that itself is a privilege – is unnecessary when I raised an issue. However the extent to which this mostly pro-predator society works is as far as it goes.

Keep calling me a prostitutes, you pieces of crap who call yourself human beings. It does me no harm. Neither do I feel any shame.

If one profession exists to satisfy the needs of men alone, if one profession exists where men prey on finding young girls so that they can traffic virgins so that the men can have sex with nubile children it is prostitution. it is not as if women really have a choice once they have been beaten into submission and into prostitution. And then the gall of those to use the word “prostitute” to shame women. Wow.

இதுல இந்த meme போட்ட லூசுக்கு ‘பார்ப்பன’ correct spelling கூட வரல. இவன் எல்லாம் தமிழ் page நடத்தலன்னு யாரு ஒப்பாரி வெச்சாங்”
