Director Shankar Getting Slammed After All These Years !! Check Why

Kollywood’s leading filmmaker Shankar facing severe criticism from the fans of Tamil cinema for some of the scenes that he made for the films Anniyan, Mudhalvan etc. Many of the twitter users who felt that the filmmaker portrayed poor and oppressed as bad people in his films, slammed him through their tweets. A scene from “Mudhalvan” where college girls would accuse men from “Seri” (slum) misbehaved with them and the way “Anniyan” killing a poor homeless man for being lazy and sparing Nandhini even after she tried to bribe officials came under scanner. A scene from “Sivaji” where dark skinned girls “Angavai, Sangavai” could be seen getting trolled by the lead actors also got dragged into the discussion.

Director Shankar, one of the prominent filmmakers of Tamil film industry, got debuted through “Gentleman” which was released in the year 1993. After that he made films such as “Kaadhalan”, “Jeans”, “Indian”, “Mudhalvan” and topped the list of most prolific tamil filmmakers after directing Superstar Rajinikanath two times. He was planning to make the sequel of Indian 2 and the project got dropped due to various issues.

Now, the filmmaker is currently concentrating in making films in Telugu film industry. He committed Ram Charan Teja for his first direct Telugu film and recently, it was announced that Thaman is going to compose music for the film. Reports on the filmmaker visiting the shooting spot of Lingusamy’s upcoming Telugu film also surfaced. Meanwhile., a number of social media users has been expressing their displeasure over the filmmaker’s ideology in his earlier films.

A meme on the contradiction between college studying girls complaining to “one day” chief minister Pugazhenthi about the men from the slum harassing them and Pugazhenthi shooting videos of Thenmozhi without her knowledge is being widely shared in the micro blogging social media site. A twitter user named Dr. Jayaseelan uploaded the meme in his twitter handle and it garnered wide attention from the users.

Many other users came up with posts pointing out how the filmmaker portrayed the oppressed in a bad light through out his movie. Writer Sujatha who collaborated with Shankar in multiple projects got slammed as well. Check out some of the posts below :
