Director A. Priyadhaarshini said that the film would go on the floors on Jayalalithaa’s birthday on February 24.
The poster of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s biopic titled ‘The Iron Lady’ was unveiled on Thursday.
Actor Nithya Menen will be playing the role of Jayalalithaa and the film will be directed by A. Priyadhaarshini. It is also rumoured that Actor Varalakshmi Sarathkumar to play the role of Sasikala, one of the prominent person in Jayalalitha’s life.
‘The Iron Lady’ will be among the biopics reportedly being made in Tamil cinema at the moment.
Filmmaker Vijay has announced a similar project, while veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja is also reportedly mulling over making a film on the former Chief Minister.
Speaking to The Hindu, Ms. Priyadhaarshini said that the film would go on the floors on Jayalalithaa’s birthday on February 24.
“The film will chronicle her life right from her days as a young actress to her final days in hospital. The film will strive to recreate the old studios in Kodambakkam where she shot for her films,” said Ms. Priyadhaarshini.
She further said that several actors were reluctant to be a part of the film, given the delicate political situation in the State.
“Many actors are still very sceptical about playing various roles in the film. But, Nithya Menen was bold enough to say yes to this role,” she said.
Ms. Priyadhaarshini said that the film would reflect the tumultous life Jayalalithaa lived for 68 years.
