With COVID 19 restrictions being imposed across the country, people are not allowed to go out without having essential needs. The virus has changed the lives of people immensely as no public activity is taking place without the wear of the deadly virus. Public gatherings of any kind are prohibited. As far as marriage events are concerned, people have been cancelling and postponing the ceremonies that were scheduled during May, June.

However, still few chose to conduct the marriage events by inviting small group of people. Now, to our surprise, a Madurai based couple, went one step ahead and restricted COVID 19 from playing spoil sport in their marriage. They decided to conduct the marriage in a flight while it’s flying and had nearly 160 guests for their “once in a life” marriage ceremony.

The groom, booked an entire flight for the duration of 2 hours and traveled from Madurai to Bangalore while the ceremony took place mid air. Videos and pictures of the ceremony went viral in social media platforms with various kind of reactions from the public. The videos showed the groom tying Mangal sutra to his the bride with the guests, sitting at their seats, blessing the couple.

Along with the wide reach, the event also raised questions as the people who were seen in the video failed to follow certain rules such as wearing a PPE kit, mask and a face shield. The guests weren’t following social distance as well which is applicable not only in ground but also in flight. As a result of it, The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has initiated legal actions against the event.

On seeing the reports on staffs who were present at the flight while the marriage event took place, many users of the micro blogging social media site started slamming the couple for costing the suspension of the workers. “If you have so much money, please donate it to people who are struggling at this pandemic situation” wrote a social media user with many others opining similar reactions.
