Salman Khan, prisoner no.106, slept without eating dinner on his first night at the Jodhpur Central Jail, officials said on Friday, a day after the superstar was sentenced to five years in prison for killing blackbucks in Rajasthan in 1998. He is set to spend another night in jail after a court examining his bail request today asked for case records from the lower court.
Salman Khan, who was sentenced on Thursday to five years in prison for killing two blackbucks about 20 year ago, has been kept in ward no. 2, adjacent to the cell of self-styled ‘godman’ and rape accused Asaram Bapu.
Jail superintendent Vikram Singh, while briefing the media on the celebrity inmate, said Salman Khan would be treated as a normal prisoner and no special treatment would be given to him. He will have a simple wooden bed, a rug and a cooler in his cell, Singh said.
Salman was served dal-roti and vegetables for dinner last night but he reportedly refused it. His bodyguard, Shera, had apparently bought outside food for him but following prison rules, Salman wasn’t allowed to have that.
Salman was reportedly also served tea and khichdi for breakfast this morning but he refused that too. Salman will be spending another night in the jail today after the court reserved his bail hearing for tomorrow. The court has asked for case records from the lower court before taking a call on his bail hearing.
“He will have a simple wooden bed, a rug and a cooler in his cell. He was given normal jail diet like Dal chapatti and the morning meal will include simple khichdi,” Jail superintendent Vikram Singh said.
Salman reportedly also had a threat from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in the jail. About this, Mr. Singh added that Salman might be kept with other prisoners for some time so that he is not left isolated.
Salman moved a bail application on the grounds that the witnesses against him are not reliable. His sisters Alvira Khan and Arpita Khan Sharma are in Jodhpur. If reports are to believed, brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan will be arriving to Jodhpur today. Close friend Preity Zinda was also spotted at the airport today.
Salman Khan’s two sisters, Alvira and Arpita, are still in Jodhpur after attending the trial, and reports suggest that more family members, including brother brothers Arbaaz and Sohail Khan, may arrive today. Salman’s close friend Preity Zinda was also spotted at the airport today.
