On Thursday, Director Selvaraghavan came up with a tweet revealing about a fact on how he lied about the budget of his “Aayirathil Oruvan” film and why he is regretting about it now. The tweet is going viral with various kind of reactions from the fans of the filmmaker and the fans who has been demanding the sequel of the historical drama for a very long time. Selva said that people is considering the film as an average one, despite it collected the money invested.
Aayirathil Oruvan featured Karthi, Reema sen, Andrea, Parthiban in the lead roles. Music was composed by G.V Prakash and Dhanush sung a song for the film. The film revolves around three characters, Muthu (Karthi), Lavanya (Jeremiah) and Anitha (Reema Sen) who embark on an adventure to search for a missing archaeologist. It is inspired loosely by the historical decline of the Tamil Chola dynasty and the rise of the Tamil Pandya dynasty.
The film is believed to be a box office dud until the tweet uploaded by the director of it on Thursday morning. Selva said that the actual budget of “Aayirathil Oruvan” was Rs.18 crores. He said that they (Producers and other important crew members of the film) decided to announce it as a 32 crore rupees budget film to hype it as a mega budget film.
The filmmaker, in his tweet said that it was a stupid decision as the film managed to collect the budget but is still considered as an average one. He concluded the tweet saying that he learnt not to lie despite of the odds through the experience. “The actual budget of #aayirathiloruvan was 18 crores. But we decided to announce it as a 32 crore film to hype it as a mega budget film. What stupidity! Even though the film managed to collect the actual budget it was regarded as average! Aayirathil Oruvan got re released in some of the prominent theatres in Tamil nadu recently and garnered huge reception with fans lauding the intelligence of the filmmaker for making such an intriguing film during 2010. Many fans termed the project as “Magnum Opus” and compared it with Telugu blockbuster period film “Bahubali”. On the new year day, director Selvaraghavan came up with a tweet and surprised his fans by confirming that Aayirathil Oruvan 2 is in cards. Releasing a poster, Selva and Dhanush said that the film will release in the year 2024.
On the work front, Selva is turning actor through Arun Matheshwaran’s “Saani Kayitham” and Vijay-Neklso Dilipkumar’s “Beast”.
