Selvaraghavan Sought Apologies After His Video Went Viral !!

Director Selvaraghavan uploaded a tweet seeking apologies from his followers after an answer he gave to Baradwaj Rangan in an interaction with him for film companion South regarding his recently released film “Nenjam Marappathillai” stirred controversy. Barad asked whether the horror flick is a veiled commentary on revolutionary reformer Periyar as he named the character of S.J Suryah as “Ramasamy”. After a brief pause, the filmmaker could be seen nodding “Yes” which created a huge outrage in social media platforms.

Now, the ace filmmaker came up with a tweet seeking apologies from his followers and said that he didn’t understand the question interviewer asked. He regretted for answering that way and said that he should have been careful.

The most awaited “Nenjam Marappathillai” of directed by Selvaraghavan got released in theatres after nearly five long years since its production. After so many struggles, the makers have managed to get theatrical release for the film. As soon as the film got released on theatres in the theatres of Tamil nadu, it started receiving mixed response from the public and critics.

The film features S.J Suryah, Regina Cassandra, Nanditha Swetha in the lead roles. After getting completed in the year 2016, due to various consecutive issues, the film managed to reach the audience only on 5th March of 2021. The film which is based on a woman taking revenge on her lustful employer, is currently running successfully in theatres.

To promote his film, director Selvaraghavan has been appearing in interaction with youtube channels. Baradwaj Rangan, while interviewing the 44 year old filmmaker, asked whether naming the character of S.J Suryah as “Ramasamy” is a veiled commentary on the revolutionary reformer Periya. It is very well known that the leader who is an atheist, stood against superstition and denied the existence of God. In the film “Nenjam Marappathillai”, Regina was portrayed as a God and “Ramasamy” as evil.

When Barad asked the question, the filmmaker, after a brief pause, nodded “Yes”. The particular clip went viral in social media platforms with the followers of Periyaar slamming the filmmaker.

Now, after seeing the reactions in social media, the filmmaker came up with a tweet saying that didn’t understand what Barad asked and regretted for not being careful while answering. “I only understood the question after you people pointed it out to me. I should have been careful. Sorry” he said in his tweet.
