Arguments at a restaurant are seen quite frequently everywhere, mostly about the price of a dish, or quality of food. However, it rarely happens that the argument settles only when someone dies by the end of it.
The owner of an eatery was shot dead on Sunday evening in West Bengal. The man’s crime: demanding Rs. 190 for a plate of biryani from four customers. After he asked for money, a fight erupted and one of the customers shot the eatery owner, according to the police.
Sanjay Mondal was declared dead in hospital. The incident took place in the 24 Parganas district.
Police officers told news agency IANS they had lodged a complaint and arrested one of the suspects, but the others are missing. “An FIR was lodged and we have arrested the accused Mohammad Firoz,” said the officers, adding that they were looking for the other accused.
Though they suspect that the shooting was provoked by the fight over the price of biryani, the police are also investigating any other possible motive.
“As of now we think it is related to biryani only but our investigation is on,” said an officer.
Mr Mondal’s brother named the customers who started the fight and said the family was living in terror of the shooter, believed to be a man called Firoz. “Firoz shot my brother. There were four people: Raja, Firoz, Mogri and Salman. They are hooligans,” he said, according to IANS.
“We all are very scared and don’t know how to run our business peacefully,” he added.
