Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Monday announced a sum of Rs.1,000 crore for carrying out relief works in the cyclone Gaja affected districts.
He also said the death toll due to cyclone has gone up to 46.
In a statement issued here, Mr Palaniswami said a solatium of Rs. 10 lakh will be given to the families of the dead, Rs. 100,000 to those who are severely injured and Rs. 25,000 for those who have suffered minor injuries.
He also listed out the amount of compensation to be paid for those who had lost their homes, household items, livestock, crops, coconut trees and others.
Popular Tamil actors such as superstar Rajinikanth, Vijay, Suriya and Vijay Sethupathi among others have come forward to donate to the cyclone Gaja relief fund.
As cyclone Gaja has wreaked havoc in nearly a dozen districts of Tamil Nadu and rescue operations are underway, members of the Tamil film fraternity have joined hands to do their bit.
Actor Vijay has joined the list of the donors by donating to the Gaja victims through his fan clubs.
Thalapathy Vijay has now entered the scene by making a substantial contribution towards the relief funds through his authorized fan clubs.
He has been making multiple contributions of sizeable amounts and fans have taken to social media to share the credited amount from Vijay.
According to Indiaglitz website, the actor has deposited 4.5 Lakhs in all heads of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam who located in the nearby districts of Gaja affected areas. It is also said that Vijay had instructed them to provide necessary welfare activities.
Actor Suriya was among the first Tamil stars to come forward and lend support.
Suriya, along with his father Mr Sivakumar, brother Karthi and wife Ms Jyotika have together donated a sum of Rs. 50 lakh as relief fund through various NGOs in the cyclone Gaja affected areas.
In a statement, Mr Suriya said that it was heart-wrenching to see the Delta region being affected severely and added that it’s the duty of everyone to extend support to this region.
Superstar Rajinikanth, in a statement, today announced relief materials worth Rs. 50 lakh towards the relief fund.
Basking in the success of his latest Tamil film “Sarkar”, Actor Vijay has donated around Rs. 40 lakh to 9 bank accounts of his fan club heads to help those affected by cyclone Gaja.
Actor Vijay Sethupathi, last seen in Tamil film “96”, has announced a relief fund of Rs. 25 lakh to be spent towards buying rechargeable torch lights and saplings for those whose farms have been destroyed by cyclone Gaja.
Actor-producer Sivakarthikeyan donated Rs. 10 lakh to the Tamil Nadu CM relief fund in addition to Rs. 10 lakh worth of relief materials.
Now recently actor Simbu who was known fro raising his voice for social issues has came up with a new idea to make the transactions transparent between the donors and the beneficiaries.
Now to unite the people for the cyclone affected districts Silambarasan released a video through his best friend Mahat Raghavendra’s twitter account. “Every one of us wish to donate for the Cyclone affected people and lot of us donating as well. But not every people could donate amount as they are not aware of how to donate. As we all use cell phones, to make the donating process transparent we could use the cell phone networks and ask them to show the detail of every donor and the amount he donated which will help us make sure that the money paid. And also Government should recognize this initiation and provide the donated money to the affected people authentically.
