On Friday, South African cricketer Ab de Villiers who is fondly called as Mr. 360 degree by fans for the kind of shots he mostly plays, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and left his fans in a dejected state. The right hand wicket keeping batsman who was struggling to find form for the past few years, said that he is announcing retirement at the age of 37 as the “flame is no longer burns so brightly” in his emotional post.
The cricketer’s announcement came in as a huge shock to the cricket fans across the globe and made many emotional. Virat Kohli, Ab de’s pal who shared so much memory with him in the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp came up with an emotional note, reacting to the latter’s announcement which officially ended his relationship with the Bangalore based IPL team.
The cricketer who announced his retirement from International cricket in the year 2018, made his announcement about retiring from all forms of cricket in both twitter and Instagram on Friday. “I would like to thank every teammate, every opponent, every coach, every physio and every staff member who has travelled the same path, and I am humbled by the support I have received in South Africa, in India, wherever I have played” De Villiers said through his post.
“It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket. Ever since the back yard matches with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm. Now, at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns so brightly. That’s the reality I must accept – and, even if it may seem sudden, that is why I am making this announcement today. I’ve had my time. Cricket has been exceptionally kind to me. Whether playing for the Titans, or the Proteas, or RCB, or around the world, the game has given me unimagined experiences and opportunities, and I will always be grateful.” he said before thanking his family which includes his parents, brithers, wife and children.
