To rule out the entire controversies that are surrounding around “Jai Bhim”, Journalist Senthil came up with a question to director Selvaraghavan, asking him why he portrayed Dhanush as “Dalit” in his “Pudhupettai” movie. The journalist, in his youtube channel, said that he can make many similar questions based on several movies that were released in Tamil cinema so far to conclude that the “Jai bhim” controversy which claims that the film defames “Vanniyar community” is baseless.
A huge controversy on “Suriya against Vanniyar community” is making headlines for the past one week. It all started after a set of people got offended over the usage of a calendar with fire effigy that got placed in the house of a corrupted police officer and himself being named as “Guru” instead of the being named as “Antony Samy”, name of the real life corrupted police official. PMK party members and the supporters of it started protesting against the film, alleging that it hurts the sentiments of people who belong to “Vanniyar” caste.
PMK leader Anbumani Ramdoss came up with a press note, shooting 9 questions to Suriya and the actor replied back requesting him not to restrict the ideology of “Jai bhim” into “name” politics. Advocate Balu, leader of Pattali Makkal Katchi’s legal wing had sent a legal notice mentioning that Thu Pa Arul Mozhi considers certain scenes in “Jai Bhim’ were conceptualized to defame the Vanniyar community. The notice also demanded the film crew to pay Rs. 5 crore within seven days from the time and date of receipt of the notice.
Report on a PMK cadre barging into a theatre and stopping the film’s screening at Mayiladuthari surfaced. Video of a Nagapattinam district secretary of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Sithamalli Pazhani Saamy, announcing Rs. 1 Lakh cash for anyone who kicks Suriya has created huge outrage among the Internet users. On seeing Suriya facing troubles from PMK, filmmakers of Kollywood industry including Bharathi Raja, Vetri Maaran, Pa. Ranjith, Venkat Prabhu raised voice supporting the actor. Hashtag “We Stand With Suriya” has been trending with thousands of tweets in the micro blogging social media site. Reports emerged saying that police officials with weapon has been guarding actor Suriya’s house for protection due to the ongoing controversy.
Now, journalist Senthil came up with a video in his official youtube channel, saying that he could raise many questions on behalf of all the castes when it comes to films hurting the sentiments of people who belong to a particular caste. “There is a film called “Pudhupettai” which has actor Dhanush in the lead role. The film which was directed by Selvaraghavan, is an excellent one to watch. There’s no denying in it” Senthil said.
“In the Pudhupettai film, Dhanush is a crueal Rowdy who kills his own father. He also marries his friend’s sister in a forceful way and has intercourse with her without her consent. Do you know how Dhanush would have been portrayed in the film ? During the candidates selection, Dhanush would request his leader to give him a chance to represent the party in Egmore constituency. Why is it Egmore ? Why it shouldn’t be some other constituencies such as Mylapore or any other constituencies in Tamil nadu ?” Senthil questioned.
Watch the video below :
“Egmore is a reserved constituency and it is one of the most important ones in the Chennai corporation. In reserved constituencies, only people who belong to Dalit community could contest. So, you are portraying the protagonist who involves himself in committing deadly crimes as a Dalit ? Did anyone get offended ?” said the journalist to rule out the “Jai bhim” controversy.
